Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Friday Five
1. The past few days I got a revision letter from an editor on one manuscript, revision suggestions from my agent on another manuscript, and revision suggestions from a writer on a third manuscript. So, naturally, I'm writing a long blog post. Yes, I'm pathetic.

2. Does anyone else wear some clothes forever? I still wear a comfy winter nightgown my mom bought me in 1988, a T-shirt (because it's from the only race I ever ran, a 5k) from 1989, and a summery bathrobe I bought on sale from Sears in 1985. Yes, I'm pathetic.

3. Remember I was in search of a hobby? I've been baking a lot lately (and now have the tummy to prove it), and on Monday night I start taking a stand-up comedy class. Probably I'm pathetic.

4. This week, I have been driving my three children to three different morning camps in three different cities. Yes, I'm pathetic.

5. I am so proud of my Cheesecake Gang, aka the three writers I have long lunches with at the Cheesecake Factory once or twice a year. I've read their new books recently, and they're excellent. Really. I'm not even saying that because I like the authors so much. I'd like the books even if they were written by that guy who never showed up for our roller skating date in high school. Mary Pearson's THE ADORATION OF JENNA FOX is one of the most gripping, thought-provoking novels I've read in a long time. Marlene Perez's LOVE IN THE CORNER POCKET is very fun, romantic, and fast-paced, and Debbi Michiko Florence's CHINA, A KALEIDOSCOPE KIDS BOOK is fascinating, with great recipes and other activities. My friends are the opposite of pathetic.

Aw, you're so sweet, and definitely NOT pathetic. I am so in awe of you taking that stand-up comedy class! You are totally brave! Now I really DO have to take an art class this fall!

And btw, I'm a huge fan of your work! Particularly that YA ms I recently read. WOO! Can't wait till it's a book I can buy!

Yes, now you have to take the art class!

I sure hope it's a book to buy one day, because right now the manuscript is kicking my butt.

You could always bring the baked goods to your stand-up class. It's so not pathetic that you're taking that class. Do you know what that's going to do for your school presentations? :)

That is a very good point about the school visits! I fantasized about selling my books after my standup act but not about doing standup at my book talks.

Pink Colleen Moore Fairy Castle t- shirt from Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry, 1989, because it's soft and all worn in just the way I like it. Just did the daily job/walk in it, in fact.

Stand-up comedy sounds fun! I still wear my Oxford sweatshirt from 1988, and just this week I wore a simple knit dress I got in 1991 or 1992. I think I have some clothes going back to 1983. Most of them are too dated to wear, but I still haven't managed to part with all of them. Oh, and if a shirt is "only" 10 years old or so, it probably doesn't even seem old to me!

Really comfy SoHo t-shirt I got in 1988.
Really worn super cool bathrobe just like Murphy Brown wore on the show... yes, I called the wardrobe department and talked with the costumer. They had bought the robe on Melrose (gone) but I found it one day in Manhattan Beach. Can't let that one go!

I'm a little in pathetic company with ya there!
(BTW I went grocery shopping this week BY MYSELF... heaven!)

You are going to be so the OPPOSITE of pathetic at Stand-up comedy!

I'm going to fly out from the East coast for your first gig just so I can beat up anyone who dares to heckle you with a hard kosher salami.

Debby, you are hilarious! Not pathetic at all. You'll do great at #3 with the whole stand-up comedy class.

I can relate with #4 as I've been driving my son around to swim classes and other events.

#5 All of you guys in the Cheesecake Gang rock as writers!

If you were really pathetic, would I have driven all the way to Aliso Viejo just to meet you last year? I think not. :>)

Yes, I wear old clothes till they wear out. They're comfort clothes, like comfort food.

It must me in the cheesecake, because one of our gang has an awesome new series out--SUPERNATURAl RUBBER CHICKEN--that is even being talked about on CNN. Imagine that! And at ALA they were giving away the CUTEST rubber chickens to celebrate her book. Very cool indeed.

hey! My hubby took a stand up class up in OC! Even performed at the Comdey Club there. I wonder if it's the same class? You'll be a scream ; )

Interesting about your hubby. He is a really funny guy. I'm taking the class from Bill Word. I just found it by googling. I hope it's good.
