58 more days til school starts
Things have gotten bad. Today I not only threatened my middle child with sleepaway camp, I threatened him with sleepaway camp at Camp Green Lake.

He just laughed.

If you have never heard of Camp Green Lake, please read HOLES, my favorite children's book.

I suppose it's better than threatening to send him to Camp Crystal Lake.

Very good! (At least, you get a laugh... I get an eye roll.)

Just dropped my middle child off at Summer School (Freshman Honors English Rec). Yes!... and that's after 5 weeks of BB and football camp... how many more days did you say?

Have you mentioned he'd have to eat raw onions?!

Debbie,

Your kids can hang out with our kids. Our boys have definitely earned a one-way ticket to Camp Greenlake this summer. Actually, thanks to summer camp, they're not too bad. In fact, youngest son took a day off from camp today and we're going to the movies later. Indiana Jones, here we come.

Not only do I love HOLES, I wish I wrote it!

Hang in there. Think of all the great material they're providing you for your humor columns.

Regards,
Donna

Mine are only 3 and 5, do you think I can still send them? Maybe we can get a group discount. :) I can't wait until they are big enough to read HOLES. The movie was great too.

I did too! I just read a SF Chronicle article out loud to my 11YO about how sleep away camp is good for teaching kids independence and for preventing "helicopter" parenting. I'll send you a copy if you want :)
